The Federal Union of German Plant Breeders (BDP) attaches great importance to the development of relations with Russian plant breeders and seed growers. Since the mid-1990s, BDP representatives have repeatedly visited Russia in order to establish mutually beneficial contacts, hold meetings with officials and representatives of sectoral public organisations, hold seminars and round tables on topical issues of bilateral cooperation.
Since 2012, in accordance with the decision of the Bundestag and the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection of Germany, the interests of German breeders and seed growers in Russia is represented by a permanent coordinator for relations with the authorities and public organisations.
Mutually beneficial cooperation in the sphere of breeding and seed production in Russia and Germany is actively developing in the areas of protection of breeders' rights and protection of breeding achievements, improvement of systems of state registration of varieties and variety trials, phytosanitary control of seed lots and planting material and many other areas of mutual interest.
In pursuance of the joint statement of intent of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation on cooperation in the field of seed production from 18.01.1013, together with the German-Russian Agrarian-Political Dialogue both in Russia and in Germany held a series of events with senior representatives of the Federation Council, the State Duma of the Russian Federation, ministries and agencies from both countries.
Agreements were reached on specific areas for the continuation of such work for the benefit of breeders and seed growers in Russia and Germany.
